The incredible, thrilling series, Stranger Things, returns to Netflix for a second season on October 27.

It is the story of a small town that suffers in the mystery of a missing child. Some believe he is dead. Some believe he runs away. Some believe his father kidnaps him. Yet, the truth about his disappearance is so unbelievable and sinister that it merits a government cover up conspiracy.

A monster from an alternate dimension (aka the Upside Down) tries to eat him. Fortunately, he escapes the monster. However, he cannot escape the Upside Down. In spite of popular opinion, a small group of people including Will's mother, his closest friends, and the chief of police embark on a terrifying journey to find him.

In John 8:12, Christ says, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” -NLT

In Season One, Will's loved ones band together to save him from the dark world and the monster that seeks to devour him. He suffers in the darkness. He freezes, starves, and breaths contaminated air. All the while, he must avoid the grasp of a carnivarous monster.

The odds are stacked against him. Yet, he survives. His mother and friends' desperate attempts to find him give him hope. The hope of rescue keeps him going. He barely survives the Upside Down.

Isaiah 9:2 says, "The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.” -NLT

The trailer for Season Two suggests that he a piece of the Upside Down comes with him. He becomes a mediator between his world and the dark world. He has visions of a new monster that seeks to destroy the world, and it makes Season's One's monster look like a pretty flower.

Though contaminated, terrified and exhausted, Will also has a unique opportunity to be a messenger for the world. He can warn his town of what is about to come. He can give them the chance to defend themselves. He can be a ray of hope for the people.

Like Will, we all live in a world contaminated by darkness. Like Will, we have the opportunity to send a message filled with light. Like Will, we can use our experience for the better. Like Will, we can save our friends from death. The message is salvation through Jesus Christ.

As Christ says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." -NLT

Netflix releases Season Two of Stranger Things in a matter of hours. Let us draw a message of hope from it in the midst of overwhelming darkness. Let us be inspired to give hope to the world that is already overwhelmed with darkness.
