In John 5:24 Christ says, “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life." -NLT
Flatliners is a horror film that presents the most important theological question of all.
Everyone is a sinner. We all have shame. We all have guilt. We all have regrets.
Such is the same for Courtney, Sophia, Marlo, and Jamie, a team of medical residents who embark on a dangerous and ambitious experiment. They willingly die in order to discover the secrets of the afterlife. Then, they are revived at great risk to their lives and souls.
What they find in the afterlife is different for each of them, according to their experiences. The sin that haunts them appears to judge them. What's worse, it follows them upon their revival. It haunts, it hurts, and it kills.
It begins as a curiosity, a career advancement opportunity, or an advantage for knowledge. Soon, it becomes an addicting drug. However, it could also be the end of them. There is only one way to survive.
REPENT. ASK FOR FORGIVENESS. RECONCILE.
Reconcile with their victims and with themselves.
It is as simple in the real world as it is in the film. hat is the ultimate answer they discover in their experiment. Not where you go, but what is necessary to get there.
In John 3:16 Christ says, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."-NLT
Once one finds salvation through Jesus Christ, then there is no need to ask the questions presented in Flatliners. Scripture makes it clear.
Two options: Heaven or Hell.
Whether you repent your sins determines where you go.
