Love Your Enemies

Proverbs 11:17 - "Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you." (NLT)

During the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Scott Lang aka Ant-Man makes no appearance. This next Marvel film, Ant-Man and the Wasp, reveals why. Unaware that the entire universe is fighting for survival, Scott reunites with Hank Pym and Hope van Dyne in order to save Janet Van Dyne, Hank's wife and the original Wasp, from the Quantum Realm. It is a dangerous and mysterious place from which only Scott returns alive.

The situation is dire and time sensitive. With every passing day, Janet fights for life. She cannot survive on her own. She needs her family to rescue her. After years of research and design Hank finds a way to bring home his wife. To succeed they must enlist Scott's help, because of his connection to Janet. He is the key to locating her.

In the midst of their noble goal, obstacles surround them. Bitter ex partner seeks revenge. Ambitious weapons dealers desire Hank's technology. Authorities seeks to incarcerate Hank, Hope, and Scott for the deeds they do as Ant-Man and Wasp, even though their deeds are for the good of society. Even time is against them. Above all, a mysterious enemy named Ghost seeks to harm Janet as soon as she returns.

Who is Ghost?

Villain or victim? Harmful or harmed? Warrior or pawn? Antagonist or duel protagonist?

Her name is Ava. She is a young woman in tremendous, chronic pain. A failed experiment changes her physiology. She fades in and out of reality making her a unique warrior. She can move through walls. She becomes invisible to her enemies. She is strong and determined. She is a force to be reckoned with.

Luke 6:35 - "Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked." (NLT)

However, it causes her tremendous pain, which drives her insane. It makes her bitter and impatient. It causes her to blur the line between right and wrong. She becomes a weapon against her will. Yet, all she wants is relief. She is desperate for relief, the kind of relief only Janet can provide. Without it, Ava could die.

Because she lacks all sense, she fails to realize that her goal could be better achieved by working with the trio against of fighting and stealing, especially with a weapons dealer hot on their tail. It is a lesson she must learn before it too late and before she kills Janet.

The safe retrieval of Janet is the only way for Ghost to find relief from her pain. Only Janet's power can relieve her suffering. It is also kindness and sacrifice that restores Ava's humanity. It leads her down the road to redemption.

Perhaps, Ghost will return to save the universe from Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War Part 2. The surviving Avengers can use all the help they can get. Who is left? Who will save the universe? What powers and gifts will be available to bring back all of those who have fallen?

Romans 11:22 - "Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off." (NLT)
