Luke 12:15 - "Then he said, 'Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.'” (NLT)
Based on a true story, American Made tells the incredible true story of Barry Seal whose rare piloting skills give him pivotal roles in CIA intelligence, drug trafficker, gun smuggler, and money launderer.
He is a man who takes every opportunity that comes his way. It doesn't make what, where, or for whom. As long as he could be paid to fly he would do it. Starting out as an ordinary pilot for the TWA, the temptation of money and excitement become too enticing to ignore.
It pays off. He makes more money than he knows what to do with by doing something he loves. In the 70s and 80s descent pilots are a valuable commodity. Flying was a new and convenient courier service. Barry Seal takes full advantage of that need.
Unfortunately, his story does not end happily. He flies high, but it becomes a long fall down. The criminal aspects of his jobs catch up with him. He becomes caught, investigated, and hunted.
He was "the gringo that always delivers". Because of his reckless choices he can never deliver anything again. The rewards he reaps are very short lived until he ultimately cost him his life.
Life throws us opportunities, but we shouldn't accept all of them. We need to be able to decide what is right and wrong. Good and bad. Pure and corrupt. Productive and harmful. Godly and sinful. We need to make good choices in life in spite of the immediate rewards.
Spiritual rewards are far greater and last longer than material rewards.
