WWJD: HOW TO TREAT OTHERS

Cara Buckley • June 5, 2012

It is counter productive to minister by ways of judgmental and intrusive behavior.

Very recently, my husband and I were put in a difficult situation. It was a situation involving lack of tact, border-line harassment, and lack of faith in both of us. Needless to say, we are both very upset about it. The more it continues, the less we want to comply. In times like these, it makes me think about Christians’ approach to saving unbelievers. If a small issue like mine can escalate to the point where I want nothing more to do with the party involved, then what do our unbelieving brothers and sisters think of Christians who minister in a similar approach.

People will avoid you. People will hate you. Most importantly, they will ignore the Good News that you have to offer. Christ was an open, caring, and nonjudgmental person. He influenced people by telling stories, healing the sick, understanding, and ACCEPTING. Not through cruel and judgmental treatment.

We are Christians. The term Christian means “follower of Christ”. This means that we not only need to speak his message, but also we need to follow his actions. The Bible says that he can minister just as effectively through our actions as well as our talk. People see Christ through us. So, let’s take every opportunity we can. Every time you find yourself confused, simply ask the question: What would Jesus do? If you don’t think he would call someone lazy and incompetent, then DON’T SAY IT EITHER. It’s nothing but hurtful, and it achieves nothing.

Love, acceptance, charity, respect, and trust. These are the ways to treat others in the name of Christ. These are the ways of Christ in Culture.
