Be careful what you wish for!
Who hasn't fantasized about wishing away their troubles? Who hasn't suffered from poverty? Who hasn't experienced embarrassment at the hands of their parents? Who hasn't longed for the love and attention of a handsome crush or for vengeance to befall their enemies?
Clare Shannon is a girl who suffers from all these things. Her life exudes suffering. She is poor, bullied, humiliated, lonely, and neglected. Her heart screams for a better life. Never is there a soul more gullible to the temptation of seven granted wishes.
The box that grants her wishes takes the life of a loved one with each wish. Only far too late does she learn the cost. Oddly enough, she finds she cannot give up the box. She becomes a desperate addict.
Of course, the box murders every person capable of helping her. Others distance themselves, because of her changing behavior and/or the dangerous consequences of remaining close to her.
Her reckless pursuit of happiness strips her of everything and everyone that can bring her happiness. Money and attention does not bring her happiness. She loses her friends. She loses family. She loses her sense of security. She loses her dignity. She loses sight of her identity and becomes the very person she once despises.
Will she learn to let go before she pays the ultimate price?
